I do love the subtle shading in this, it gives it real impact and makes it feel powerful. I don't know how well that would come out in ink (not that I know all that much about tatts in the first place) - but I reckon it would look great in black and white, as linework, so perhaps that doesn't matter.

I don't think the stuff around the background adds very much to the tattoo. But what does it mean to you? You should always have a meaning to every tattoo before you get it

It's not manslaughter without laughter!

I don't really know much about tattoos, but it seems like the gradient effects over the lines might make it look blurry or unclear. Other than that it looks pretty cool.

Oh Drinky Crow, you're so poetic!

can do gradations with ink... jsut really time consuming, and in this case, I agree not worth it.

by background do you mean the gradation in the back or the lines?

and meaning, it is multiple symbols of protection

* Blue Lotus (Skt. utpala; Tib. ut pa la): This is a symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses, and signifies the wisdom of knowledge. Not surprisingly, it is the preferred flower of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom.

The Left Eye of Horus represents abstract aesthetic information controlled by the right brain. It deals with esoteric thoughts and feelings and is responsible for intuition. It approaches the universe in terms of female oriented ideation. We use the Left Eye, female oriented, right side of our brain for feeling and intuition.

I think every tattoo should be unique to the person wearing it, and should be meaningful. I find getting tattooed is a very therapeutic experience...and so all of mine a tied to me emotionally.

You've obviously put a lot of thought and work into this piece, and it looks amazing. Yes the gradients would take a bit more time...but I actually think they would be worth it, and an artist worth his/her salt wouldn't even bat an eyelash at it. Your shading adds a lot of depth, it'd be a shame to see you lose it! How big do you want it, and where are you putting it?

My tat artist told me the some of the lines I had drawn up on a smaller piece I have were too close together, so we had to adjust the spacing so they wouldn't blur together in time. Keep this in mind for yours.

Good luck! I hope you have fun getting this, it'll look great!

was thinking left shoulder blade about 5" or so...
and debated apprencing- but have too may hobbies as is...though a better undrstanding of limits of ink would improve my flash deigns.

this design was more of a guidline really, since i knwo tatoo artist would have thier own wtyle anyway, so save drawing it on,yslef firsrbetter to let artist do thier thing. :)
